In past columns from upcoming editor-in-chiefs, they shared a common theme of looking to uphold the traditions held by The Tower since 1928. While we share the importance of upholding these values, we equally look forward to evolving and carrying on the tradition in our own way. As the new print editor-in-chief (Isaac Brenner) and web editor-in-chief (Viviana Ostrowski), we are ready to take on the next school year’s publication with a new outlook.
As the upcoming print EIC, I, Isaac Brenner, take the responsibility of continuing our “tradition in print” very seriously and with great honor. I look to connect the South and Grosse Pointe communities with our paper to recognize the hard work of our student-journalists and present the privilege we have to behold such a prestigious publication. It is a focus of mine to meet standards set by The Tower decades before us while taking a modern approach to how we share news and stories. We have something to be proud of here, and I hope to let everyone around see that and celebrate our accomplishments with us. Our school and city have been covered by The Tower long before us, and it will be long after we are gone. I am both thankful and humbled that it has been passed along to me to keep our tradition running and growing into something greater.
As for our online publication, the goal is to provide a wider variety of content that is accessible to everyone. I, Vivi Ostrowski, have always had an admiration for high school journalism because of its ability to project the voice of students to the rest of the community. The Tower has always found success in providing timely and quality content for South students and families to enjoy. All of the hard work from our staff deserves recognition, so this year as Web EIC, I intend to make efforts to highlight the stories on our website and our multimedia elements. At The Tower, we take great pride in our wide variety of content, all of which can be accessed digitally. By enhancing our website viewership, all of our content can be equally appreciated throughout South’s community.
For 97 years, The Tower has served the community and Grosse Pointe South. We understand that our publication is bigger than us and the people in it, and we hope to make those who have been a part of The Tower proud. We are committed to continuing to serve the community with passion, morals and the truth. The Tower will represent South with honor and dignity, and set an example of what quality student journalism looks like. We are extraordinarily grateful to be trusted to guide our staff this upcoming school year, and under our leadership, The Tower will continue to be a beacon of light in Grosse Pointe.
Right over left,
Vivi Ostrowski
