Boys varsity lacrosse defeats Eisenhower

Senior Night

This Wednesday, the South Varsity Lacrosse team took to the field against Eisenhower on their senior night, to fight for their third win of the season.

South’s Varsity A team has 17 seniors including Noah Adams (Michigan State), Will Buhl (Kansas), Rob Burton (Western Michigan), Connor Brannagan (Miami OH), Michael Lesha (Miami OH), Jamey Daley (Albion), Charlie Denison (Michigan State), Jay Ulbrich (Michigan State), Tommy Sine (Vermont), Marcus Minanov (Wake Forest), Will Kay (Nebraska), Jack Roma (Michigan State), Jack Holme (Michigan State), Michael French (Miami OH), Kevin McShane (Michigan), Phillip Gatbonan (Naval Academy), Nicholas Bojarczyk (Purdue).  Over the loudspeaker the announcer would say the seniors name, number, how many years playing varsity lacrosse, parents names, their favorite memory of South lacrosse, and where they are attending school next year.

“ It was an emotional night because all of us have been playing lacrosse together since middle school and that was our last game to play for South at home,” Kevin McShane ‘17 said.

Their final home game of the year started off slow with a scoreless first quarter.  Though in the second quarter, South turned up the pace and Michael French buried to make it 1-0 with an assist from John Schulte.

“We knew if we got the first one it would open up the floodgates for other scorers so it was nice to get the first one and help my team,” Michael French ‘17.

Expectations were high for the second half, but Eisenhower came back and went up 2-1.  Soon after Will Buhl sniped at the end of the fourth quarter to tie it up.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils dominated the competition, scoring four goals, including outstanding play in net by Charlie Denison.  Goals in the fourth quarter were scored by John Schulte assisted by French, Peter Ulbrich, Will Buhl (2) assisted by Michael French (2), and Will Kay assisted by Nick Bojarczyk.  The final score was 6-3.

“We were pumped to get the win on senior night and our last home game, it was a great way to go out for the seniors,” captain Peter Ulbrich ‘17 said.

South has two more away games to finish out the regular season and then playoffs start at the end of May.
