In the best attempt to drown out stress and ease her mind on work overload, Chloe Yezback ’27 discovered her newfound passion for nail art. Finding time in her busy schedule filled with dance, homework and clubs to practice doing nails. She eventually fell into a routine of practicing at least every other week on her own nails.
“I couldn’t find a hobby I really enjoyed,” Yezback said. “Fitting in going to the nail salon to my busy schedule was hard to do, but I also love the feel of freshly done nails, so I decided how to do them myself and save money.”
Yezback had highs and lows in mastering her technique. As in many situations, practice makes progress. The biggest challenge she faced was finding a way to make fake nails sturdy and long-lasting.
“I had to try so many different products to find one that is most efficient, because in the start, they would not last the amount of time I wanted them to,” Yezback said. “After watching many videos online, I finally found products that work for me.”
TikTok played a significant role in Yezback’s learning experience, helping her discover new approaches and products to try. As she progressed to creating designs and professional-looking results, Yezback’s friends began to notice the talent she had developed.
“My friends started asking me to do their nails once they noticed I’ve gotten better. They will even ask me for big events like homecoming Doing their nails is fun since we get to hang out and it saves their money,” Yezback said.
Getting nails done can become very expensive, sometimes even getting pressured into getting something you did not ask for, or were not warned about the price of an extra design. Having easy communication results in a happier outcome, as most are likely more comfortable telling a friend what they want to change.
“I find it very beneficial for myself and my friends that I began this; it saves us both money and I personally think a better result,” Yezback said. “If you have the patience to begin this hobby, you should, as it has a slight impact to make my life easier and it is worth it.”
