As spring break approaches, many seniors are talking about their plans and are getting excited for it. Many spring breaks have been being planned since January of last year.
For Spring Break, many seniors at South tend to go to a tropical place for a planned vacation with many friends groups, with even other schools attending. This year, many groups are traveling to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and staying at the Hard Rock hotel. Many of these seniors are staying four to five nights this year, including Makenzie Adams ’26, who said it is the perfect amount of time because it is easy to get tired when staying for more days, since there are activities every day.
“You’re doing something every night, and you’re hanging out with your friends all day,” Adams said. “So in a warm, sunny place, you might get tired from that.”
Some nights at the resort in Punta Cana have themes, including white night or neon night, where everyone can dress in those colors. Sydney Eickhorst ’26, who is also attending, said she is most excited for white night because she can spend more time with everyone by participating in all these activities.
“I think it [white night] is our main and big night where everyone can be dressed up and I think it is just going to be a super cute night overall,” Eickhorst said.
Some seniors, however, are not attending the trip, where many are going for senior spring break. Ava Fedirko ’26 said she is not going because her parents wouldn’t be able to come with her.
“I do not own a passport and Punta Cana is very far away, so I am going to Seaside, Florida instead,” Fedirko said.
Many seniors have been considering and even planning their Senior spring break since freshman year. Adams said everyone always gets super excited about it once they first hear about it.
“It’s one big trip with mostly all the seniors,” Adams said. “It’s kind of like a grade bonding thing and everyone is really hyped about it.”
Many seniors have started talking about break, even in school during classes, so it can sometimes feel like the “norm” to be going with everyone. Fedirko said they are always talking about what they are going to wear and all the fun activities.
“I feel like I’m missing out on a great week of my life,” Fedirko said. “I have been getting severe FOMO [Fear of Missing Out] about missing it.”
With second-semester underway, “senioritis” has kicked in for many seniors, and spring break has given Adams and her friends something to look forward to, besides all of the homework and tests.
“It is one last push through to get all of my work done, so I can go on spring break and have some fun,” Adams said.
