In the outskirts of Grosse Pointe Park, a new flower shop has sprouted up. Maison Parc, which opened on Nov. 1 at 15124 Kercheval Ave, is a brand new addition to the Grosse Pointe community. From personalized flower arrangements to ready-to-go bouquets, you can find just what you need.
Having worked in retail since she was a teenager, the owner, Laura Meyer, always knew she wanted to pursue something in the retail field; she just needed to find the perfect fit for Grosse Pointe.
“Because I grew up in Dallas, I wanted to bring something here that we also had in Dallas that would go well in Grosse Pointe,” Meyer said. “My vision has been to have an interactive flower shop where people could come in and pick stems and create their own designs. We’re trying to give people an experience along with an arrangement.”
South alumna Olivia Kowal ’25 fell in love with Maison Parc the moment she walked into the shop. Shortly after it opened, Kowal applied for a job and now works there whenever she is home from college. On a day-to-day basis, she does everything from processing flowers and taking phone calls to tidying up the shop.
“Initially, when I walked into the store, I immediately thought it was just so cute, fun and personable,” Kowal said. “I loved how intimate and small it was. I love my boss and the florist, and my other coworker, Lauren Crawford, is amazing. I think it’s cool and different that we don’t just do flowers too, and that we sell home decor, and we’ve just started selling balloons too.”
Word about the shop has gotten around to South students as well with many visiting the shop, finding it through social media, or some even finding jobs as well. Lauren Crawford ’27 is a newly hired worker at Maison Parc and has nothing but excellent things to say.
“When I heard it was coming to GP, I was so excited to reach out and see if they needed any help,” Crawford said. “After working there with their social media, merchandising, processing flowers and just helping customers, I can say that the atmosphere is just a great place to work.”
While Maison Parc appears perfect and polished today, that’s not to say that opening a new business did not come with a challenge, a good challenge growing quicker than anticipated. As demand increased, Meyer said much of the shop’s success can be credited to the welcoming and celebratory culture of the Grosse Pointe community.
“Grosse Pointe inspired me to come here because I love the way people live here,” Meyer said. “Everyone is very warm and loves to celebrate everything. That’s something I really love—I love a party, I love decorating a party and I love home. I hope to inspire people. Even if they come in and don’t buy anything, I hope the smells, books, colors and flowers inspire them to go home and create something.”
