The event began with teachers stepping onto a carpeted ice, followed by receiving flowers and warm embraces from their players. The annual night celebrates the bond between the team and their teachers. Coach Lexi Bohlinger, who has been with the team for years, said that the event never fails to highlight those strong connections.
“All of the kids really love these teachers, and it means a lot to them to have the support of the school. Having them come to watch us, especially when we play as well as we did, was really special,” Bohlinger said.
The night was just as meaningful for the teachers. Spanish teacher Cindy Morefield-Pinder, better known as Profe, reflected on her final year attending before her recently announced retirement. Over the years, the tradition has become something truly special, and her presence is a cherished part of the evening.
“I have always loved coming to watch girls’ hockey, and although this is my last year being recognized as a teacher, I’ll still come to more girls hockey games in the future to show my love and support for the team,” Morefield-Pinder said.
As the feeling of lasts lingered, seniors also reflected on their journeys with these teachers that have been with them during their high school years. Evie Wodzisz ’26 captured the sentiment best.
“As a senior this game was really about showing our thanks to the amazing teachers that have brought us to the place we are now, and honoring them in a great game like tonight,” Wodzisz said.
By the end of the night, the game wasn’t the only thing being celebrated. Alongside the win and school spirit, the appreciation for the teachers stole the evening. Foods teacher Nickolas Lopez agreed that it was an honor to be part of the night.
“For me, it’s a big deal to get chosen by one of the girls to donate their jersey for the game… it’s so great to watch them play and see all of the things that they work so hard for,” Lopez said.
