A new Culvers is set to open on Hillcrest and Mack Avenue, replacing the remains of the old Comerica Bank, on Dec. 15, 2025. It is the latest in an extensive list of fast food restaurants opened on Mack Avenue.
The extra choice of restaurant is a welcome addition for many people who have become frustrated with the limited fast food options available in the Grosse Pointe area. Many, such as Henry Chesterton ‘26, are thrilled to have more places to choose where to eat.
“I’m really excited to have another food option when I’m driving down Mack,” Chesterton said. “Culvers is one of my favorite fast food places to eat.”
However, the new Culvers provides an interesting problem for some people. With so many new fast food places opening up, many individuals will have to choose where they want to spend their time and money. Some, like physics teacher Todd Hecker, debate whether they would get Culvers instead of the other, well-established, fast food options around the area.
“I would for sure go to Culvers over McDonalds,” Hecker said. “I would also probably go to Culvers over the new Chick-fil-A opening up soon as well.”
Not everybody is happy with the new Culvers, as some people, such as Harmon Meldrum ‘26, are disappointed with the addition of yet another fast food restaurant instead of a local or family-owned business.
“ I’m kind of over all of the new fast food places being opened.” Said Meldrum “ I would much rather a better restaurant or store be opened up, as I think that there is too many fast-food places being opened.”
The restaurant will also open up new opportunities for people to get employed, as job listings have already been filling up, while the renovations are expected to turn the eyesore from the abandoned business into a new gathering spot for locals.
“The first time I ate at Culvers, the burgers were a little too buttery for me,” Hecker said. “But with the new one opening so close to us, I would love to give it another try.”
