What do you celebrate during the entire month of November? Because surely you aren’t waiting weeks until the day after Thanksgiving to put on those incredible Christmas tunes and break out your festive decorations. Many people seem to forget that the holiday season usually includes both Thanksgiving and Christmas, ultimately deeming preparation for Christmas to be most certainly included. Also, who is going to set an entire month aside for a singular dinner? Larger corporations clearly respect the holiday festivities by releasing Christmas-themed products in early November, weeks before December. Not to mention, the joy and cheer spread by Christmas festivities should not be something that is anchored to a strict timeframe.
Nov. 1 marks the beginning of the holiday season, ghouls out, garlands in and for many larger corporations, the shelves begin stocking and sites start releasing all of the holiday season products. Though one thing is very prominent, Christmas-related products are more profitable than Thanksgiving products. Starbucks is a participating retailer that begins its Christmas season this year on Nov. 6, 2025, only six days after the end of the Halloween season.
The early release of Christmas products sparks an exponential increase in Starbucks commerce, for example, their “Red Cup Day” last on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2025, bringing in a staggering 42.4 percent more visits than the average Thursday, according to the NACS. This is a clear indication that Christmas-related festivities bring profitable results to businesses.
Beginning the Christmas planning on Nov. 1 also gives one much more time to evaluate certain events, gifts and details that are crucial to a successful Christmas. Families with children find themselves struggling with last-minute gift shopping due to the unspoken rules about getting ready for Christmas “too early.” The preparation for Christmas, beginning in November, allows many to utilize large sales opportunities such as Black Friday.
The defensive nature people have when it comes to beginning the celebrations of Christmas early is justifiable, though it should never be forced onto someone. Letting the cheer come early will only result in a bit more community. This idea that Christmas must be tied down to the month of December takes away from the idea of fellowship that is so important to the Holiday.
Overall, Christmas is a timeless moment of unity, companionship, and nostalgic feelings evoked by merry traditions. Connecting both the camaraderie from Thanksgiving and the joy from Christmas, Nov. 1 should mark a clear start to the Holiday season.
