Interlochen is a camp for grades three through 12 and offers three different sessions for high school students. One of the three sessions consists of one week and costs around $2000. Financial aid is not eligible for the one-week session, but applicants can apply for financial aid and scholarships for the longer sessions.
This fine arts camp gives students the opportunity to meet new people from all over the world and experience a different atmosphere. It is truly an amazing chance to grow as an artist, musician, dancer and more.
MIPA Summer Journalism Workshop – 153/100
Located on the campus of Michigan State University, the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) summer residential journalism program offers incoming 7-12 grade students the opportunity to explore journalism. Through writing, photography, design, yearbook editing and news anchoring, MIPA provides applicants with professional and award-winning journalism educators to further enhance students’ knowledge and growth.
Just about one and a half hours away, the camp takes place from July 20-24, 2025 and costs just over $500, with available scholarships and fundraising assistance. MIPA presents students with the opportunity to experience what life is like on a college campus, while also indulging in fun activities.
Classes remain small so students can get all of the individualized attention needed while also allowing participants to meet fellow students with similar interests. Whether you love writing, or want the chance to experience something you’ve always wanted to do like sports broadcasting, MIPA is an excellent place to start.
MASC MAHS Summer Camp – 165/100
The Michigan Association of Student Councils and Honor Societies (MASC and MAHS) offers high school students a chance to increase their leadership skills and work with others. The camp is located at Albion College, so about an hour and a half away from Grosse Pointe.
The leadership camp offers two sessions, one for middle school students and one for high school students. Camp activities are broken into four levels based on the number of years a student has attended the camp. For first-year students, the camp focuses on activities that will help grow the students’ leadership skills and also an understanding of themselves.
The MASC/MAHS summer camp takes place between July 20 to the 25 and costs around $500. The leadership camp offers two different scholarships that applicants can apply for: the SET SEG Leadership Camp Scholarship and the Junior Counselors Scholarship. The summer camp presents students with a wide range of activities and strives to incorporate leadership skills into the camp experience.
Dollars and Sense Camp – 141/100
Dollars and Sense Camp is a five day experience meant to help students prepare for the future and learn how to manage money. It is located at Western Michigan University’s (WMU) Haworth College of Business and is held from August 4-8.
The purpose of the camp is to teach students how to manage their personal finances by understanding and applying basic concepts such as budgeting, paying for education, saving for retirement and more. Activities and sessions are taught by experts from the private sector and the Haworth College of Business Department of Finance and Commercial Law.
Registration is around $300 as the main focus of the camp is to teach applicants for the greater good of their future. Throughout their time at WMU, campers can take away important lessons about financial management and become prepared to face problems in the future.
