The South Girls’ Lacrosse team began their annual mulch sale fundraiser this spring; offering residents the chance to support the team and enhance their yards simultaneously. The mulch sale, which helps raise funds for the team through the Girls Lacrosse Booster Club, is essential in supporting the players through their season by funding their uniforms, equipment, travel, food and other necessities
Varsity captain Elle Petz ’26 has been playing on the lacrosse team and selling mulch since her freshman year, and is now in her third year participating in the sale.
“Players have a minimum of 50 bags to sell, so as captains, we try to encourage them to sell as many bags as possible,” Petz said. “People can buy mulch by going to our website and purchasing it online or by filling out an order form that a lot of the girls are handing out to friends, family, neighbors and local businesses.”
The team offers four types of mulch: cedar, hardwood, black and brown, all priced at $6.85 per bag. Players will provide free delivery to Grosse Pointe Farms, Park and City homes on Sat. April 26, 2025. Orders that were placed outside of the delivery area, their mulch will be available for pick up that Sat. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at South.
Varsity player Elena Huebner ’26 shared her love for the team bonding that the mulch delivery day brings.
“Going with teammates to drop off the mulch makes it more fun and a lot better,” Huebner said. “Having people to talk to and laugh with makes it fun even though it’s such a long process.”
Even though the order deadline for the mulch was April 9., for those who still want to support the team, you can donate on their website gpsgirlslax.com for $50, $100 and/or $250. All proceeds will go towards the Girls Lacrosse Booster Club.
First-year varsity player Alex Lupo ‘26 shared her positive experience with the mulch sale.
“I sold mulch to my grandparents and neighbors,” Lupo said. “Everyone wanted to purchase it because it’s the perfect time to buy mulch since it’s spring and they’re supporting the local high school’s team.”
