Following the success of Ariana Grande’s album Eternal Sunshine, Grande recently surprised her fans with a very anticipated deluxe version called “Brighter Days Ahead.” She released six new songs on the deluxe album including a 30 minute short film with songs from her old and new albums. From the hypnotic beats to Ariana’s signature ethereal vocals, we’re diving into what makes Eternal Sunshine Deluxe a must-hear.
The first song starts with an extended version of “intro (end of the world)” from her previous album, featuring haunting melodies and breathy harmonies. The theme of the song is anxiety and the complexities of relationships.
Next on the tracklist is “twilight zone,” which is a metaphor for having a surreal moment in a past relationship and not knowing whether it was a dream or a nightmare. Grande expresses how being in the “twilight zone” is like being in a bizarre moment that challenges reality. People on social media have been interpreting the lyrics as an allusion to her divorce from Dalton Gomez.
The third track of the album, “warm,” has a brighter upbeat vibe and lyrics. The “warmth” referenced in the title and chorus represents the comfort and security found in a loving relationship. This song conveys the feelings of happiness that come with finding a loving partner. It’s been interpreted as Grande’s feelings towards her new boyfriend, Ethan Slater.
The fourth track on the album is “dandelion,” which has a diva-pop vibe and that fans feel conveys Grande’s true self. Opening with a 40 second saxophone instrumental, “dandelion” stands out with its unique blend of jazz and pop. The lyrics and the harmonies Grande adds discuss Grande starting fresh in her life when it comes to romance. The lyrics also say, “Baby boy, don’t blow this,” revealing her fear of abandonment but showcasing her ability to blend fears with confidence.
One of my favorite songs on the album is “past life.” The strings in the background of Grande’s heavenly vocals really add so much to this song. Her lyricism in this track speaks volumes about regrets of past relationships and the difficulty of moving on. It centers around having acceptance in your life and indicates a readiness to leave behind what no longer works and embrace the future.
Finally, another beautiful song, “Hampstead,” starts off with a piano and a crowd talking in the background. I believe this song is the ultimate breakup song. Grande addresses public scrutiny and rumors about Grande’s personal life. In these emotional lyrics, she clarifies her position and defends her current relationship, emphasizing her desire to feel everything rather than nothing.
