With the summer season coming, park employees all over Grosse Pointe have been racing to get the pools ready for opening weekend by performing maintenance, filling the pools and ensuring safety protocols are in place.
At the Farms Park, aquatic and marina supervisor, Michele Eickhorst has been hard at work since January. Before the pool can open, she has to decide when to fill the pool, get all the needed permits to open and make sure she has all her lifeguards’ certifications ready to ensure they can get hired.
“Opening the pool takes more than what most people think,” Eickhorst said. “There are a lot of unseen steps to get everything ready on time.”
As the opening weekend approaches, families are already making plans to return to the pools for swim lessons, free swim and summer events.
“We’re going to be ready pretty soon,” Eickhorst said. “It’s a lot of work, but we’re all excited to open.”
