Spring is coming fast, as well as a variety of Easter traditions ranging from simple gatherings to extravagant celebrations. Easter traditions vary from family to family. While some families opt for understated celebrations, others pull out all the stops, creating elaborate festivities. Hearing what traditions people have can lead you to a new tradition of your own.

Spanish teacher at South, Cindy Morefield-Pinder, talks about her traditions when her kids were in their younger years.
“Probably 100 kids would come to our house, and we’d have the biggest Easter party,” Morefield-Pinder said.
She was able to give a special experience to all of the kids in her neighborhood that they would never forget. Tommy Gorski ’28 shares how his family’s Easter traditions, while different, resonate with the same spirit.
“When we’d wake up every morning, my parents would have Easter baskets out,” Gorski said. “A lot of the time, we were also out on vacation during Easter, like in Florida.”
Parents play a big role in making this holiday special for their kids. When kids wake up and think that the Easter bunny has come, their whole mood is brightened. As kids get older, parents tend to stop acting like the bunny. Evie Wodzisz ’26, shares her traditions as she has gotten older.
“Recently, I’ve gotten a little Easter basket from my mom,” Wodzisz said. “I don’t know where the Easter Bunny went, but the egg hunts have stopped.”
Parents still want to bring out their kids’ inner child on holidays by doing traditions that they have had since they were little. Although they don’t go all out anymore, they will still do things to make their kid smile. Outside of the egg hunts and baskets, people have a brunch or dinner on Easter with their loved ones.
“We would go out to dinner, or go to a family friend’s house,” Gorsk
i said.
Going out to dinner instead of cooking allows the parents to relax for part of t
he day and enjoy family time with their loved ones. On the other hand, some families like to make a home-cooked meal.
“I would make a really good pasta, primavera, because everyone could enjoy that,” Morefield-Pinder said.
The traditions of every holiday look a little different in every family. The traditions that families have are unique to them and will forever hold a special place in their hear
ts, which makes the holiday so amazing.
“Easter has always been my second favorite holiday behind Christmas,” Gorski said.
