Crushing competition

After an exciting win against Lakeview High School, the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse team was ready for a win against Utica Ford High School. On Apr. 18, the Blue Devils secured a win with an ending score of 22-1 against Utica Ford. This winning streak has put the team in good spirits with their 3-0-11 season record so far.

Ruby Verlinden ’24 was named player of the game, being one of the top goal scorers for the game. Verlinden is committed to Northwood University for Lacrosse.

“I felt good going into the game, we knew they wouldn’t be a hard team to beat,” Verlinden said. “For most of the game, there wasn’t anyone on me so it was easy to score.”

Utica Ford was forced to play defense for the majority of the game, unable to compete with South’s offense. Stella Fry ’26 made a goal during the game.

“We were really confident, but mostly excited to play another game,” Fry said. “Everyone’s energy was very high.”

At the half South had an 11-point lead, Ford was having an increasingly difficult time taking on South’s offense. Helena Moore ’25 is a staple to the attack line.

“Since we were doing so well at the half we were able to switch up positioning and have some fun playing,” Moore said. “Since we knew we were not going to have a problem winning, we were able to experiment with positioning.”

With a running clock and a 15-point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, South was reading to make some changes.

“Coach started putting new people in everywhere the defenders were playing attack and getting opportunities to score goals,” Fry said.

As the last buzzer rang, South players ran to the goal in excitement.

“Everyone had fun, we were just glad we won,” Verlinden said.

Julia Roeder ’25, Supervising Web Editor
Whether it’s The Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, or Tyler the Creator, Julia Roeder ’25 is guaranteed to have seen them in concert. All eyes envy her as she walks into the journalism classroom wearing merchandise she bought from the concert the night before. When she’s not listening to her favorite artists, she spends most of her time jamming out on her own guitar, being your average aspiring popstar. Besides her still-amounting popstar career, Roeder is also the Supervising Web Editor of The Tower. This is Roeder’s second year on staff and she is looking forward to continuing her role and being involved in the community and school. “I love Tower because you’re informing the community of what’s going on and also getting to know people on staff,” Roeder said.
