New season with new hopes for the girls basketball team

The girls basketball team has just started a new season after a long off-season of training.
According to assistant coach Caitlin Moore, the team is focusing on taking each game once at a time.
“We obviously would love to get to the district championship, but to do that, we need to focus on each game individually and take it from there,” Moore said.
According to Moore, the team is looking to bounce back from a decent season last year.
“Last year, we went 13-9 in the regular season. A lot of our players are returning from that season, so we’re looking to pick up where we left off and improve,” Moore said.
The team has been preparing for a long time, according to center Payton Roy ’20. Some players also participate in other sports for extra conditioning.
“We have camps, open gyms and conditioning sessions throughout the summer, as well as the preseason months,” Roy said. “I think those are great opportunities to prepare, but I also run cross country during the fall to get in extra conditioning.”
After the season ends, Roy said she is planning to make a decision regarding her potential college basketball career.
“I have been looking into the possibility of playing at smaller schools, such as University of Michigan-Flint or Schoolcraft College,” Roy said.
The girls hope to start off on the right foot, according to guard Alexa Downey ‘21. She said the team is confident they’ll make it to the playoffs again this year.
“We have high expectations for our team this year,” Downey said. “We are looking to compete for the district championship again this year and make it far into the playoffs.”
