With two hamsters and three sisters, Sofia Wortman knows how to be part of a team. Now, as a first-year staffer, she’s excited to translate the skills she’s learned to the Tower classroom as an ace staff writer. Wortman admires the independence that the Tower gets when covering the news.

“I love that The Tower is student-run without overbearing administrative oversight,” Wortman said. “It allows us to make sure everyone is held accountable for their actions, how journalism should be.”

Wortman’s teamwork skills shine equally bright on South’s lacrosse team, where she excels. Still, as a junior, Wortman finds herself leading the team through thick and thin, both with her technical ability and her morale-boosting presence. She finds the whole experience rewarding.

“The team bond is so important to me,” Wortman said. “Just like the Tower room, we are all working together towards a common goal.”
