Maureen Scanlon ’27, Opinion Section Editor
Coming into her second year of writing for The Tower, opinion section editor Maureen Scanlon ’27 returns for junior year with her long time passion for journalism and writing. Her mom and aunt both wrote for their school paper, and Scanlon looks forward to continuing that legacy throughout this year and beyond.
“I would think about majoring in journalism,” Scanlon said. “Hopefully I’m gonna move up to be an associate [print editor] next year.”
Beyond the news, Scanlon sports a 10-year career in soccer. Despite no longer playing, she still enjoys watching her favorite teams. For South, she is a member of the mock trial team and contributes to Looking Glass, which features poetry and more from South’s students. Furthermore, few people know that she is an only child.
“I think people think only children are really, like, stuck up and spoiled,” Scanlon said. “But I try not to be. My parents also did not raise me like that at all.”
