April 30 marked President Trump’s first 100 days in office, and they have officially come and gone, taking with them American dignity, confidence, and stability. After being inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2025, the White House described his first 100 days as the most consequential and productive start to any presidency, and this is hard to deny, but is that a positive thing? Is producing masses of policies, legislations and tariffs to appease a mindless cult following productive? Is abusing power asserting dominance or just plain authoritarian? What has happened to America in these past 100 days?
Back in rally mode, Trump hosted his 100-day rally at Macomb Community College in Warren. During this circus, Trump put on his regular performance of hubris and vanity, dancing to YMCA while expressing how much he misses the campaign. He also took the time to, once again, whine about and blame various national issues on the former president Joe Biden. He celebrated many of the cruel policies he enacted, especially surrounding deportation, defended the ludicrous tariff policy, and entertained the idea of an unconstitutional third term.
Trump’s overall approval rating is down 42 percent, according to NPR and Gallup’s numbers back to Harry Truman; Trump’s approval rating is the second-worst of any at the 100-day mark in the last 80 years – the lowest being his approval rating in his first term.
In 100 days, Trump has raised mass fears of a recession after launching nonsensical tariffs on countries he felt had been unfair to the US. The economic ripple effects of these tariffs are only beginning to be felt, as small businesses are being priced out of competition and farmers are struggling enormously. Also, international allies are distancing themselves diplomatically, and they are uncertain of the direction US foreign policy will take under Trump’s erratic leadership. Trump’s stance on immigration has become more diehard than ever with with ICE raids increasing in frequency and innocent people being sent to inhuman prisons in El Salvador, their suffering is something that he is excessively proud of. Trump has also worked to diminish LGBTQ+ rights, especially towards the transgender community, as he has weakened Title IX protections, censored books in schools and public libraries about LGBTQ+ stories, calling it “anti-obscenity”, and encouraged a violent attitude towards trans people. His administration has also dismantled DEI initiatives as he signed Executive Order 14173. Meanwhile, Elon Musk has practically taken office without an election, blurring the US government into an oligarchy. This is all just scratching the surface of what Trump has subjected this country to because yes-men keep up his delusions and ego.
My final thoughts on Trump’s first 100 days are this: Is a near-dictatorship protecting American values and democracy? Is the anti-woke” rhetoric just Trump and his MAGA minions touting a faux righteous way to be a bigot and a homophobe? How has America come to where it is today, and is it possible to bring it back to a country that inspires and accepts all people?
