By: Finn Cornwell ’28
Now in Issue 6, Staff writer Finn Cornwell ’28 reported on the challenges the Black Student Union (BSU) has to face when an anonymous “White Student Union” social media account was made. The article follows how the social media account mocked the BSU’s mission and made disrespectful comments towards black students at South. By: Kassiani Norris ’27
Kassiani Norris ’27, our soon-to-be Print Editor-in-Chief, wrote a powerful sports/opinion piece regarding the ongoing struggle for gender equality in sports in Issue 11. The story highlights the disrespect women athletes still face in this day and age, ranging from insults to the harassment of professional WNBA players. Norris also covers the Winter Olympics, where the women brought home more medals than the men despite the public harassment. We chose this as our top sports story because it shares more than just event coverage, but addresses the real challenges our athletes have to face every day, whether playing in high school or a professional league.
OPINION
Headline: BOE throwing out process and trust
By: Isaac Brenner ’26
Print Editor in Chief Isaac Brenner ’26 wrote about the Board of Education’s decision to change the superintendent search process in our 11th issue. The article argues that by shortening a 14-week process into just two weeks, the board skipped a major public input. While the story notes that Dr. Roy Bishop is highly qualified, it also criticizes the board for not following the standards of public interviews. We chose this as our top Opinion piece because it shows our goal of holding local officials accountable, even as teenagers and standing up for our community. While Brenner’s year is coming to an end as head of leadership on the Tower, his stories will have a huge impact forever.
