Set to potentially open in early June, Playa Bowls, a popular açaí and smoothie chain, is ready to open in Grosse Pointe Woods. This will be the owner Matthew Caplan’s 10th Playa Bowls location, making this opening a huge milestone for him.
This location, among others in the area, gets fruits and vegetables delivered from Eastern Market up to six days a week. Playa Bowls avoids sugar as a whole, not even carrying sugar in store. They only carry agave and honey as sweeteners.
“We decided to open our first Playa Bowls four years ago because we thought Michigan needed a healthier alternative to fast food,” Caplan said.
The business gets their açai berries from farms in Brazil and has smoothie bases specific to the chain. They also have many ways to accommodate nearly any allergies or dietary restrictions for almost every menu item.
“We have had many customers come into our other locations who live in the Grosse Pointe Area and we thought it was time we brought the store to them,” Caplan said.
