Grad party season is approaching, and although students may start to dream about fun nights ahead, they should also consider the alternatives to parties. When students graduate, many are quick to throw a huge party, inviting all their friends and relatives. This can sound fun, but let’s look at the other side of things and how much a student could benefit from not having a graduation party.
Money is something that students start stressing about when they are juniors. Saving money can be hard for many high school students, but when a student decides to back away from a grad party, it can actually be a lot of help. Many students will end up spending their college money on their grad party when they could really save it for school in the fall.
When summer comes around, graduates’ schedules are full of friends and family’s graduation parties. Something to consider is the work that it takes vs the reward. At the end of the day, there is much more effort involved in putting on a graduation party than one may assume. Some parties take months to plan, and there is a continuous venue hunt that people will not consider. If not hosted at the graduate’s home, you are competing with hundreds of other families for the perfect venue. Furthermore, when one hosts the party, they are more likely to be doing work rather than actually enjoying the party. The labor is then met with the exhausting cleanup that takes place at midnight once the party is finished.
After the four long years spent in high school, it is completely understandable to feel the desire to be celebrated. There are many other options to celebrate the work one has put forth in their past years, with the opportunity to be stress-free and relaxed. Something that could be considered is a vacation. In the next month or two, students will leave for college, leaving their families behind. This calls attention to the fact that students should be able to spend the most amount of time with their family. This is why a vacation could be a great escape for a student. Creating memories that aren’t full of the pain of cleaning up and money spent can be a healthy way to celebrate one’s graduation.
Overall, while there is pressure to create and host a party for the graduates, it can be easily avoided. Milestones can be celebrated in ways other than just a party. Avoid the stress of a party and think about the importance of the fact that the student has completed their years of high school and is on to the next chapter of their life.
