HHVS Summer Fellowship Program:
Beginning on June 2 and ending on July 24, the Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services Office in Wayne County offers a paid public health internship for high school students. The eight-week program leads with a goal to strengthen the public health work interest and promote equity and improvement within the field. Interns would be supervised by either the Division Director, Department Officer, or another designee while working part-time, up to 20 hours a week at a rate of $15.75 – $25 an hour.
The program includes all of the common requirements of an internship, including assisting with data collection, reporting on the community/environment and eventually, leading and presenting a presentation to summarize your internship. Additionally, it is recommended that those who choose to apply should be familiar/interested in public health, good at communication, eager to learn and proficient in Microsoft Office. Sherwin-Williams Management & Sales Internship:
This rewarding 10-12 week summer program will provide you with hands-on experience in a retail environment, focusing on store management, sales and improving customer experience. While this program is available around the country, it is available at the Sherwin-Williams in Detroit at 17100 E Warren Avenue. If you are interested in sales, marketing/promotions, merchandising and business management, this could be a great opportunity! This position is only open to seniors in high school, at least 18 years old and college students hoping to further their careers in corporations similar to Sherwin-Williams. The application is due before the end of April and the key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, customer service, sales support, product knowledge, keeping track of inventory, logistical support and team collaboration. Participation in this program will teach you how to maintain a healthy work-life balance and allow you to explore the benefits available as a prospective employee. KE Camp Counselor/Intern Program:
Locally held at the Lochmoor Club, KECamps is a nationwide organization that provides summer camps for country clubs. This program calls for responsibilities as both a camp counselor and an intern, ranging from participation in camp activities to helping organize events throughout the program. Requirements to apply for this position state that the applicant must have a 3.0 GPA and be interested in education or child development. The Day Camp runs on a weekly schedule, starting on June 15 and continuing through August 7. Benefits of interning for KECamp include gaining skills sought after in the professional world, like problem-solving, flexibility, organization and leadership. Additionally, past interns have reported that the professional connections they made and the network of KE Camp came back to help later on in their careers. This position pays anywhere from $15.50-$22 an hour, but can also count for college credit depending on the university you’re enrolled in for the upcoming fall.
