Feminism is about the empowerment of women, not the belittling and hatred towards men. The term misandry is a word I was not familiar with until doing research prior to this. In short, misandry has led many to disagree with feminism when really it is the opposite of what the movement expresses. This word I find is almost equally relevant to misogyny. There is a strong argument whether misandry is justified when looking back at the quarrels society has had with gender equality. This argument is rooted through the attempt to surpass the other by who has struggled more or who deserves the attention. But in today’s age, there has been an oblivious perspective towards the hatred of men.
The regulation of phrases or terms to men that would be seen as disrespectful to women is where many don’t realize they are engaging in what is technically a hate crime. It seems that people don’t have the same reaction to these terms that are just alternate renditions of hateful descriptions towards the other gender. One being the phrase “man-whore”. This has the same impact if you call a woman this minus the “man”. Using these phrases to insult men isn’t going to make the separation between women and men any less. Instead it is going to push hate to be more common.
People seem to find comedic relief and humor from belittling men when really they are performing the same way men do that is heavily frowned upon. In many cases conversations among women would be a hate crime if centered around women instead of men. Showing your hate to the other gender won’t make you more cool, it only shows that you are ignorant of the progress gender equality has made in centuries.
Now, misandry is being disguised as feminism where all men are being subjected to the same insults that are only related to specific people. All of this is reminiscent of what feminism directly attempts to fight against for women. Though instead there is an idea that acting rudely to men is not nearly as bad as acting this way towards women. Overall a large part of feminism is the empowerment of women. In order to empower yourself, you can’t go against your morals against another gender.
