A new food spot to add to your list has already made a strong impression in Grosse Pointe Woods. Lola’s Taco Bar has recently opened on Mack Avenue and is quickly becoming a local favorite. With affordable pricing and a very welcoming atmosphere, Lola’s shares something this community has been missing.
On my visit, I tried the chips and queso, along with two street corn tacos and both were impressive. The queso was very warm, creamy, not too watery and a good size to share with two or three friends. The street taco was a perfect balance of sweet and savory with the juicy corn and savory queso fresco. The tortilla tasted fresh and was warm; the tacos are relatively small, but they will get you to a reasonable fullness after two. The menu itself is wide and easy to approach; it offers many tastes while not being overwhelming. Prices range from about $3 to $30, making it accessible for students, families and groups wanting to enjoy a meal without breaking the bank.
One thing that stands out about Lola’s is how clean and well-run it feels. The restaurant looks polished and fresh. While ordering, customers can see into the kitchen, which offers a sense of trust to the experience that you don’t see everywhere. Ordering is easy and quick, and there are plenty of workers on the floor always moving, cleaning, helping customers and keeping the business running smoothly. Despite being new, the business is consistently busy. Both times I visited, the restaurant was packed but never felt too chaotic. The seating is accessible and comfortable. Inside, the space has a modern but relaxed vibe that left me wanting to stay, when I usually order takeout.

In the future summer, Lola plans to open a side window where customers can order food and margaritas, making it a fun stop during the warmer months. What stuck out to me is its commitment to giving back to the community. Each month, the restaurant will feature a new taco on its menu. This month’s special is the Nashville hot chicken taco. For every special taco sold, $1 is donated to Rising Star Academy, helping support students through education and opportunity.
Lola’s Taco Bar feels exactly what Grosse Pointe Woods needed, an affordable, high-quality space that can bring the community together. Great food and an inviting atmosphere, it seems as though Lola’s is here to stay.
