Around 300 days into his second term, President Donald Trump’s overall approval rating is dropping. As of Nov. 17, the majority ratings are 57 percent disapprove, 39 percent approve and 4 percent unsure.
According to The Economist, no modern president’s approval rating has fallen so low, so quickly as Trump’s has. Publicly, much of America has lost favor with the current president, and that low approval percentage can significantly affect his standing in government, as explained by Kevin Minor, a government teacher.
“If [a president] has a low approval rating for too long, they will have trouble enacting their agenda,” Minor said. “They’ll find themselves with fewer and fewer allies in the Capitol, like from the legislative branch.”
The recent 2025 midterm election resulted in a largely Democratic sweep, and looking to the future, Trump’s low approval ratings have an impact on public action.
“A lot of analysts are looking at [Democrats’ success in the recent election] as a reaction to this low approval rating,” Minor said. “If [low approval] were to continue [into the] 2026 midterms, in my mind, to say, without a doubt, low approval ratings are impacting [the result].”
