A daring daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, resulted in the theft of eight priceless pieces of the French Crown Jewels, valued at approximately $96 million. The heist, which took less than eight minutes, has raised questions about the security of the national treasures.
Four suspects have been charged, but the jewels remain unrecovered. History teacher Andrew Taylor believes that if the jewels are found, it will bring even more attention to the Louvre.
“I assume that if they get these back, people for 100 years to come will be visiting them,” Taylor said. “It will become a thing that everyone wants to go see the jewels that were stolen as they come back.”
Investigators acknowledged the museum’s aging security systems contributed to the vulnerability. Even with older systems, Taylor believes it wasn’t just that.
“I think they’re going to find out that it is still pretty hard to steal from the Louvre unless you have some help from someone on the inside,” Taylor said.
