On Sept. 27 of this year, the “Spooky Pizookie” came back to BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse for the upcoming Halloween season. The closest restaurant is in Sterling Heights, which is a 30 minute drive from Grosse Pointe, but for the environment and the divine food, it is completely worth it.
Upon arriving, the wait was around 15 minutes, but I ended up being seated after about five minutes. The wait staff were immediately accommodating to my needs and kept me updated on how long our food would take throughout the process. Efficiency is something that I value in a restaurant and they thoroughly awarded this.
The menu was very diverse, it consisted of multiple meals and appetizers like avocado egg rolls and cool drinks like their handcrafted “Black Cherry Soda.” I recommend ordering something small for the main meal so that you’re not completely full for the breathtaking dessert. I ordered the “Mac and Cheese Bites,” which were crisp, and a “Shirley Temple.” Not only were the dinner options expansive, but the dessert options were too.
The options for dessert were overwhelming. There were multiple options for flavors of the pizookie, like “Salted Caramel” and “Sugar Cookie,” but because Halloween is right around the corner I tried the “Spooky Pizookie.” The “Spooky Pizookie” is a limited edition Cookies N Cream Cookie topped with pieces of Oreo, a scoop of Vanilla Bean ice cream dyed orange and Halloween themed sprinkles. On the side it came with a hard shell chocolate sauce that you were able to pour on.
The moment I scooped up the Spooky Pizookie with my spoon and put it in my mouth, the flavours hit my taste buds and it was like entering heaven. The cold ice cream mixed the warm cookies and cream cookie was delightful. The Oreos on top and the hard shell chocolate sauce added a crunch to it. The dessert was the perfect amount of richness, not too rich to where I was unable to eat it ,but the perfect sweetness factor. It cost $10, which for the quality and large portion is completely worth it.
Overall, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse was an amazing experience, from the wait staff to the food. Before the Halloween season is over, I recommend stopping by and purchasing the “Spooky Pizookie,” especially if you love cookie cakes and ice cream. No matter your taste preferences, BJ’s variety of food will leave you with something to choose from.
