Within Grosse Pointe’s different shopping/business districts, one can find a variety of stores and restaurants to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a new outfit, a gift for a child or even home decor, there is a store for you. But prior to June 2025, there was a gap in our local market. With no skincare or makeup store nearby, the only option was to drive a measurable distance just to pick up a few products. This all changed when Pointelle opened in the Village.
The owner, Georgia Assaf, isn’t new to this industry. Owning multiple businesses with her husband and even creating her own, she is ready to take on any challenges that come with the store.
“I’ve been in the makeup industry and beauty industry for probably 15 plus years,” Assaf said. “I had my own nail polish brand and I also had my own organic beauty makeup website.”
With this experience, she wanted to bring it into our city. Providing for the community as the town was in need of an establishment like this.
“I saw there was a need for it around here because there was no makeup,” Assaf said. “I didn’t know where to go to buy makeup, so I figured why not? I felt like it would fit perfectly here.”
The store itself was carefully curated to provide a range of products for customers to enjoy and explore, pulling its inspiration from across seas.
“The store itself is French inspired, so you can see that in the design and even the products,” Assaf said. “We carry a few French brands in our store and the name being French is also a tribute to Grosse Pointe itself.”
Not just the look, but the experience within the store is what truly creates their welcoming environment. Employee Laura Benamor is spending her retirement as a teacher coming back into the beauty world, enjoying every second of it.
“I used to do makeup and hair and skin care back in the day,” Benamor said. “So I kind of wanted to revisit those roots and be in the beauty industry again.”
Benamor hopes to make an impact on the customers, allowing them to become the best versions of themselves all with her help.
“Everyone who walks through our door seems to love beauty as much as we do,” Benamor said. “So it’s fun helping people, refreshing their stash or even introducing new items to them.”
Chloe Licht ‘27 has experienced this greeting environment herself. After being recommended to the store by a friend, she doesn’t regret going in.
“They were really helpful and they knew a lot of the stuff about every product,” Licht said. “They helped me and even let me try on products to see what worked best.”
So far, the hard work at Pointelle has paid off. Creating a positive experience for both the employees and customers, developing a space of positivity for all.
“You can literally change someone’s confidence,” Benamor said. “If they don’t know how to apply makeup, you can teach them. Seeing them be able to recreate the look and just be a better version of themselves creates a feeling better than one can imagine.”
