Homecoming has new traditions every year, but the Student Government has made big changes that they believe the students and faculty will love. The Student Government has worked hard to raise money to plan what they hope to be the best homecoming on Oct. 11.
Stella Fry ’26, secretary of Student Government, has worked to set up homecoming this year and in past years. Fry is confident that this year will be better than most and will have an amazing outcome.
“In the past years, the themes have all kind of been the same, so we wanted to switch it up this year,” Fry said. “Elle Petz [’26] came up with the idea of Howdy Homecoming, and we all loved it.”
Elle Petz, chair of the dance committee for planning homecoming, also agrees that this year will be better than any of the previous years. She believes that the new additions this year will attract more students, resulting in an exciting night.
“We’re going to have a petting zoo for the first time,” Elle Petz said. “I know a lot of people have been talking about that.”
The petting zoo will be outside for anyone who wants to take a break from the dance. There is also a photobooth with props inside, so students can take a memory away with them. Melissa Petz, student activities administrator, also helped plan and deal with budgeting concerns.
“Budgets are always a concern because we try to get the best bang for our buck,” Melissa Petz said. “We try to maximize value in resources like utilizing local suppliers.”
Having access locally has made a huge difference when planning so South can also have sponsorships. The budget is tight, so trying to make everything fit while ensuring a good outcome can be a struggle.
“I think the biggest decision we had to make was considering what was most important to us to incorporate with the budget that we had,” Fry said.
The budget given to the Student Government made it difficult to plan, but they still managed to include everything they wanted. The DJ and petting zoo were the most expensive parts, but were chosen so students would be more attracted to the event.
“I know everyone has been working really hard on this year’s homecoming,” Elle Petz said. “I think it will be the best one yet.”
