Charlie Thomas ’27, known for his captivating sports photography, has taken a big transition and moved towards graphic design. Thomas has had a lot of pressure on him the last few weeks, deciding to collaborate with the Devils Den team and become the school’s graphic designer. From football to volleyball, he has been working hard on his computer, while still shooting photography for the Fall sports teams.
“I was reached out to before the school year by some of the Devils Den members asking if I could help out,” Thomas said. “They knew they needed another hand to help make graphics for games, and I was excited to help.”
Thomas agreed knowing it would be a struggle to handle both photos and graphics. He wants to expand his abilities, despite the challenge.
“I have made a few graphics in the past, and the opportunity made me want to get better,” Thomas said. “I knew going in, balancing school with photography was going to be hard, and with graphics too, It’ll be a challenge, but the end result will be worth it.”
Thomas doesn’t just bring gameday graphics to the table, he loves to help out with ideas and gameday spirit. Thomas is always representing Grosse Pointe South taking stunning pictures.
“I bring my creative thoughts and ideas to them with literally anything they need help with,” Thomas said. “I like pitching ideas and spreading school spirit by wearing the Devils Den shirt and supporting South on my Instagram.”
Thomas is also grateful for the friends and opportunities photography and graphic design has brought him. From meeting friends to celebrities, Thomas has loved every second of being behind the lens.
“I mean, this is one of the best jobs someone could ask for,” Thomas said. “I have got to meet professional football players just because I do photography, it’s crazy.”
Peeking into the future, Thomas wants to continue making graphics and taking photos, hoping to expand his name and brand outside of just South and friends. He wants to become a part of the Devils Den, making photos and helping the Friday night lights shine even brighter.
“I will continue working with them until I graduate, hoping to join the group next year,” Thomas said. “I am going to try to keep balancing everything, I’m hoping the ceiling is not just high school, because I would love to take photos for some pros in any sport.”
