Over the past 4 years, Helena Moore ’25 has dedicated her time and energy to the world of Field Hockey. Through this sport, she has discovered so many life lessons not aware of before. Her journey reflects not only her growth as an athlete but also how the sport has helped shape and build her character as a person.
Helena first started out the team her freshman year, and what started as an interest turned into an important part of her high school experience. She faced both challenges and accomplishments that tested her dedication and drive for the team. The daily practices and games were a highlight that supported her hard working goals. It wasn’t long before she started playing for South when she made a name for herself as a fierce competitor.
However, not only were her achievements special, but the full team’s achievements made the sport worth it. Whether that be a well-executed pass or a scored goal, the team knew how to celebrate. When joining the team, Moore didn’t quite know how the atmosphere might be. Together they celebrated victories, navigated their losses, and supported each other in any way that they could.
Throughout her senior season, Moore showed nothing less than her all. She was known for her impressive teamwork and leadership, making her a strong captain for the team. While navigating the underclassman through the season and making new bonds, Moore was able to learn not just more about her team but also about herself.
Through these last four years, field hockey has played a crucial role crucial life lessons. Learning things like time management from balancing academics as well as athletics, and setting herself up for a successful future. She has learned the value of resilience when faced with setbacks, or the importance of hard work on and off the field. Each challenge faced created a new opportunity for growth and self-reflection, teaching herself that success is not defined by just wins.
