With a team as big as the girls and boys track teams, something like the MAC white championship is something everyone looks forward to. With preparation starting immediately, everyone has events and skills they specialize in. With track having multiple events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and do.
With the season starting off on a positive note, Shawn McNarma, coach of the girl’s track team, pushes the team to stay focused, and regardless of tough practices, the effort always pays off in the end.
“ We don’t focus on the big picture, we try to focus on one thing at a time and keep the next thing, which is the next set or run,” said McNarma.
With athletes pushing themselves and others in preparation for the MAC white championship, team support is one of the most important things for success, and doing the best you can. Captain of the team, Chloe Caulfield, highlights the importance of giving it your all and pushing yourself.
“We’ve had some meets where we get out to a rough start, but we always come back because we trust ourselves and we work hard,” said Claufield.
As the team gets deeper into the next season, the focus remains clear: give it your all, teamwork, and finish strong.
“Winning will kind of show how hard we’ve worked, and it’ll be something the underclassmen can look up to or even look forward to,” said Claufield
For the boy’s team, Conrad Squitieri, captain of the team, focuses on endurance and speed work, which has been a priority for a lot of the guys. With another being to drop their time with multiple members and relay teams achieving it. As the warmer months head in, people tend to run faster, improving their time.
“We definitely deserve it, some guys work the entire off-season with some quitting sports in the fall and winter to train for track, so it is a big deal for a lot of kids,” said Squitieri
For both teams, winning the championship would not only be a title but a reward for the dedication and hard work constantly put in at practice. Showing the hard work and discipline, it would be something memorable for members of both teams.
“It would mean a lot to me, and knowing you can win it, motivates you a lot more to work on it,” said Squitieri.
