Alright, South students. We are in the last stretch of school, and juniors are taking the SAT, sophomores are getting more anxious for junior year, and freshmen are relieved that their first year of high school is almost over.
As my final weeks of high school begin, I can’t help but think about my future. I mean, everything that I told myself is far into the future is becoming my reality, and all I can think about is how I should’ve lived in the moment more. Looking back, it feels like a dream; my whole high school career went by in a flash. I miss the innocence of freshman year, the happiness of sophomore year and the friendships of junior year. So, underclassmen, take advantage of the time you have left with people you have grown up with and matured around.
The biggest advice I can give to you is to appreciate the time you have with your parents. I regret not spending a lot of time with my parents. I used to think that being sassy and rude was “cool” and “normal.” I didn’t realize how important they are to me and how big of a role they play in my life. Part of my decision to go to school in Michigan was because I would be so close to my parents. Although I will be an adult and responsible for my decisions, I have comfort in the fact that I can go home if I need anything.
Make your parents your friends, someone you can go to. Most likely, they will have some pretty good advice. Even if they don’t, just appreciate their ability to listen to your problems and try their best to be there for you.
Your parents are your biggest fans and will drop everything to help you. All you should do to thank them is to be kind to them and appreciate their presence in your life.
