A new Monday tradition—at the strike of 8:42 a.m., a cheerful tune greets South students and staff. In an effort to provide a positive start to the week, Principal Cindy Parravano has made the effort to change the first bell of the day to a short jingle or a song.
“Everyone in this building hears the same bell over, and over again, every day,” Parravano said. “So I think if we make a small change, once a week, that makes a few people more happy, then why not do it?”
Currently, Parravano picks and runs the new bells herself, but in the future, she might be open to letting students select a jingle.
“I haven’t gotten there (to the point of letting students pick a song) yet, but maybe next year we can make it a contest or something else fun,” Paravanno said.
