JV lacrosse boys fight hard but fall short in grueling game

On April 13th, at South’s home field, Boys JV Lacrosse geared up for an intense game against Stony Creek High School. South put up a good fight, but Stony Creek won 9-1. While they may not have won the game, they continue to grow as a team.

Stony Creek came out strong early on and was able to limit the Blue Devils to just one goal, scored by No. 16 Will Gryzenia ’27. South had some great scoring chances led by Colin Cotton ‘27, Henrik Moore ’27 and Jackson Kean ‘27 but Stony Creek’s goaltending was too much to break through.

Led by Coach Justin Macksoud, the team is made up of mainly freshmen. It has grown into a strong unit that continues to improve week by week. South’s players are consistent with their training and can be heard cheering on their teammates and offering encouragement throughout the game.

“It’s important for us to win after all our coaches do for us,” Moore said. “We have to work harder than ever to improve our game and become a stronger team.”

Despite this tough loss, the team was able to see the bright side and learn from their mistakes.

“We learned that with communication our team can improve immensely,” Nate Yeamans ’27 said. “We also need to never stop working and training to get better.”

As the teams shook hands after the game, South displayed good sportsmanship and was able to admire Stony Creek’s skills.

“I was upset with some parts of our performance, but we had good defense and some strong carries down the field,” Moore said. “Their goaltending was awesome and stopped almost everything we threw at (them).”

Boys JV Lacrosse is back in action and ready to improve at home against Dearborn Divine Child on Friday, Apr. 19 at 6 p.m.
