The cheerleaders are united for the breast cancer awareness game, having previously supported the cause during last years breast cancer awareness game.

The yearly Breast Cancer Awareness game is normally at South, but this year, it will be held at Romeo, but that will not stop the Girls Varsity Cheerleading team from honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Paige Davey, coach of the Varsity Cheerleading team, will raise awareness for breast cancer at a game in Romeo. The girls will be dressed in pink bows, poms, socks, and whatever else they want to wear, such as shirts and other unique items, in order so they can create a discussion point about why they are dressed in pink. The team follows this tradition every year, but this will be Davey’s first. She is thrilled since it holds a personal meaning for her. Davey has had her own encounter with breast cancer in her life when her grandmother was diagnosed, which is why she celebrates.

“Pink has been a thing in the past for the girls,” Davey said. “They’ve been wearing it every year.”

This game is extremely important for the team since they are a group of girls who all know someone who has or had breast cancer. Before the game, they have a conversation about why they’re wearing pink, what it means to them, and what to say when someone asks why.

“It really just shows support,” Davey said. “To family members, friends, and friends of friends who are affected.”
