The girls’ varsity hockey team won 7-6 against Grosse Pointe North in a scrimmage match on November 9, their first game of the season.

This game was also the team’s first under the direction of their new coach, Alexis Bohlinger, who previously coached Cranbrook Varsity Girls’ Hockey. According to Bohlinger, the victory reflects the team’s efforts so far in the season.

“(The team is) practicing hard,” Bohlinger said “They’re picking up more difficult drills than I would have anticipated, so we’re much further along than I thought we would be.”

As a coach, Bohlinger says her primary short-term goal is to build teamwork and cooperation among her players.

“I want everyone to be contributing on the ice and off the ice as opposed to just being shining individuals,” Bohlinger said.

Defenseman and center Grace Lindsay ’23 says that a recurring goal among teammates is to defeat Liggett later this season, though she thinks the team has a lot of work to do to reach that point.

“I think we need to be better about covering girls and getting to the puck without hesitating because there was a lot of hesitating (during the game),” Lindsay said. “I think we have the capability to be a really good team, though, and it’s still early in the season so we’ve got time.”

With the entire season still to come, winger Elise Harr ’23 says she is feeling optimistic about the team’s future.

“I think just working together more and getting to know each other better is going to help us get that chemistry we need,” Harr said.
