While many events and clubs have been canceled due to the CoronaVirus Pandemic, Grosse Pointe South DECA still had its annual district competition. The competition was a success for South, as 29 students will advance to States in march.

Erin Moretz, The South DECA Advisor, mentioned how even though being virtual, DECA still found a way to be productive in their meetings.

“ During our meetings, we would have certain videos to watch to help us prepare or study for the event. We also had opportunities for the kids to have mentors to help them, and would have sessions where kids could have the opportunity to practice their roleplay.”

However, there were still lots of challenges being virtual, according to Moretz.

“ There were certainly lots of challenges with being virtual. Not being able to see each other at all was damaging for our preparation and communication.”

Despite all the challenges and adversity faced, South will still send one of the biggest groups of kids in a long time to states in March.
