New downtown shop satisfies sweet tooth

A new dessert shop opened up in Downtown Detroit in Midtown close to Wayne State University called For the Love of Sugar. The menu includes a variety of cakes, macarons, cookies and coffee.

When I first heard of this shop I was very curious about what they had to offer because I’m not a sweet food type of person. I was immediately amazed how much I enjoyed the desserts there. There were about seven flavors to choose regarding the macarons; vanilla, peppermint, lemon, birthday cake, triple berry, fruity pebbles and Nutella. These flavors of the macarons also came in gluten-free and vegan options so they can accommodate everyone. Gluten free and vegan options of the cakes and cookies were also available

The decoration of the actual shop amazed me. The ceiling had pretty silver patterns and the whole shop was filled with white and shiny chandeliers that made it feel like you were somewhere super fancy. The location of the place was also really nice. It was right by Wayne State University and seemed like a great place for college kids to study at. The only thing that I didn’t like about the location was the parking. I had to park about two blocks away because it’s located right under a new apartment building, and also is neighbors with other restaurants.

I ordered six macarons for $15. I think that they were kind of pricey because they were super small and not the best macarons I’ve ever had. The flavors I ordered were vanilla, lemon, birthday cake, and triple berry. I was amazed by how pretty they looked and they came in a really settle but unique blue box. The overall taste was not the best though, I thought they were kind of bland and didn’t have as much flavor as ones I’ve had before this experience.

Overall I give For the Love of Sugar four out of five stars. I liked the presentation and the taste wasn’t the worst but I didn’t like the parking or the price. I would recommend trying this place to people who are open to new things because it was overall a really cool experience.
