On Tuesday, Jan. 12 South boys varsity basketball defeated Fraser High School 65-41 in a game where the Blue Devils started off strong and never took their foot off the gas.
“We played a lot harder on defense and played a lot faster both ways,” Zane Draper ‘17 said, “It was just overall a higher intensity level and we were way more aggressive.”
After losing two games in a row, the team came back home and beat Fraser with a margin of over 20 points, giving the team the momentum shift they needed.
“It is a real confidence booster,” Michael Breaker ‘17 said. “It was a good game for the people who don’t usually play, to get in and get more experience for our team.”
The game was a high scoring affair from the start, fueled by point leaders Zane Draper ‘17, Jack Maher ‘16 and Michael Calcaterra ‘16.
“Beating a team by that much brings us closer together and gets us pumped for our games to come so we can keep rolling,” Zane Draper ‘17 said.
The team hopes to use the win to prepare for their next away game against Detroit Martin Luther King, Jan. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
