The two week period of Winter Break is the best time to catch up on what’s new in theaters. With an array of genres, ratings, and titles, no moviegoer is left without options. Here are some top names that you can go see in theaters over break:

  1. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Calling all sci-fi and “Star Wars” buffs! The highly anticipated first film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy is set 30 years after “Return of the Jedi”. The film follows the leads, Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Damerson (Oscar Isaac) and previous Star Wars characters in new worlds like Jakku, Takondana, D’Quar and Hosnian Prime. Harrison Ford reprises his role as Han Solo as does Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. You will not want to miss this action-packed dramatic, flick! Its release date is December 18 and rated PG-13.

  1. “Krampus”

Are you into both holiday cheer and horror? “Krampus” is the movie for you. When a family clashes over the holidays it turns child Max into a Santa non-believer. This awakens the wrath of Krampus, an evil holiday spirit, and the family must fight against beloved holiday icons to stay alive. Main actors in this creepy Christmas film are Toni Collette from “New Zealand”, Adam Scott from “Parks and Recreation” and new young actor Emjay Anthony. “Krampus” hits theaters December 3 rated PG-13.

  1. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”

If you’re planning to revive your childhood this break with tunes and cute animated figures, check out “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”. The third movie in the franchise focuses on Alvin, Theodore and Simon, three adorable and accident prone chipmunks, on a mission to stop Dave from proposing to his girlfriend and consequently leaving them. Musical covers, elaborate plans and a potentially evil step brother make this a holiday movie the whole family will enjoy. “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” will be released in theaters on December 18 with a rating of PG.

  1. “Concussion”

Will Smith is back playing the complicated South African medical extraordinaire in the break out film, “Concussion”. It appeals to both medical-science and history lovers, as Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) discovers a neurological condition deteriorating the brain on an NFL autopsy. Faced with opposition from the NFL and Medical Community alike, Dr. Omalu races to get information to the public about the brain trauma that can come from contact sports like football. This film comes out on on December 25 with a PG-13 rating.

  1. “Daddy’s Home”

New comedy “Daddy’s Home” starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg is ready to make you laugh this break. Following a chill radio executive (Will Ferrell) who fights for his two step kid’s affections when their mooching father comes home (Mark Wahlberg). “Daddy’s Home” comes out in theaters December 25 and is not yet rated.
