Robert Hindelang ’27, Staff Writer
Passion for sports is one thing you can not question about Robert Hindelang ’27. A staff writer in his first year with The Tower, Hindelang is a golfer and cross-country runner at South. Playing the sport since third grade, Hindelang values the friendships that cross-country at South has brought him, especially those with South graduates whom he otherwise would have never met. His real love lies with golf, however, which he has been training in for a few years. He plays the sport at South and volunteered at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this year.
“I have always loved playing and learning about golf,” Hindelang said. “At the Rocket Mortgage Classic, I got to talk to the players, which was a great experience, and I learned a lot.”
With his strong affection for sports, Hindelang wants to stay involved in the games he loves well past his playing days. He looks to pursue a career in sports journalism, which he hopes to start with at The Tower as a sports beat reporter and calling games for South sports. He looks up to the likes of Jim Nantz and Dan Dickerson, whom he even got to interview.
“I’m into sports and want to cover them,” Hindelang said. “I want to be a sports broadcaster or journalist someday, so Tower is one of the best ways to start doing that.”
