It’s that time of year again—the leaves are changing colors, the air is growing cooler; fall is quickly approaching, and with it, the highly anticipated Run the Pointe footrace. The upcoming race marks the 20th year of the event, which has grown to become a staple in Grosse Pointe for community members of all backgrounds. Whether you’re trying to claim first in the 10k or merely looking for a nice, scenic walk through town, Run the Pointe has something for everyone.

For event Chairman Chris Bernard, the joy of the race comes from watching new runners join the seasoned-veterans of the event, as they all run together, supporting one another along the way.“Every year it’s fun to watch the new racers come in and race,” Bernard said. “It’s always fun to see some of the people who bring their kids and run alongside (eachother).”

Tristan Wininger ’26 is halfway through his second cross country season at South and will be participating in the Run the Pointe 5k for his second year in a row. For Wininger, the event is all about connecting with old friends and the collective support shown by participants and spectators alike.“What was a lot of fun last year was seeing a lot of people I know that I usually wouldn’t see running,” Wininger said. “It’s just a big friendly atmosphere.”

Bernard reflects similarly on the event and the communal atmosphere it fosters, stating that it is this quality of Run the Pointe that makes it truly unique.“Once you get into the race, and you get into a group of spectators (as well as) the cheering on from the other runners once they get done is really something special,” Bernard said.

Run the Pointe will be this Oct 7. There will be a 5k and 10k road race/walk. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and both races kick off at 9:00 a.m.
