Girls soccer dominates Roseville, 8-0

By Devlin Francis ’15 | Social Media Director

The girls varsity soccer team beat Roseville 8-0 on May 27 to advance in the District tournament. The game was called at the end of the first half because South mercied Roseville.

“This was a great game,” said head coach Gene Harkins. “As a coach you can’t be much happier.”

South dominated Roseville both offensively and defensively, scoring 8 goals and allowing none.

“The girls played great on both sides of the ball, but I was really impressed with how they played offensively,” said Harkins. “Shutting out a team is great, but scoring 8 times in one half is even more impressive.”

Aubrey Leggat ‘16, Cydney Webb ‘15, Kathy Collins, Carly Ventimiglia,  and Ellie Zak, all ‘14, scored one goal each. Fran Weber ‘14 scored three goals to complete a hat-trick. Weber’s third goal came with 17:54 left in the first half.

“For a player to score three goals in a game is fantastic,” said Harkins. “All in one half is even better, and I’m even more amazed that she (Weber) was able to do it in just over 20 minutes.”

Harkins was very happy with how his team played, especially the seniors.

“We kind of expected a result like this, and I was glad to get all my seniors in towards the end,” said Harkins. “This was their last (home) game at South, and it was nice for them to end on moment like this.”

South will play either Grosse Pointe North or Lakeview on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at Lakeview regardless of the opponent.
