In an offensive shootout, the Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated Henry Ford II 69-60.

Although the offensive was strong, the defense was a weak part of the game, Aliezza Brown ’15 said.

“We played hard but we could’ve played better on defense,” said Brown. “That’s what we really need to focus on, but they played us tough and we just had to battle back.”

South can’t give up 60 points in this part of the season, Head Coach Kevin Richards said.

“I don’t think we covered, and helped each other out like we need to,” said Richards “We gave up a lot of open looks.”

South led the entire game but Henry Ford II fought to stay in the game.  Two threes at the end of third for Henry Ford gave South only a 10 point lead.

Cierra Rice ’15 a main contributor to the offense, with a career high 32 points, made two free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

“It was a tough game, but we pulled it off at the end which was great” said Rice.

The win clinched the MAC Red division championship. Winning the MAC is a great accomplishment for the team, Richards said.

“We were able to check off one of our goals winning the MAC Red so we are happy from that aspect,” Richards said.

With winning the division, the girls only have one goal left. Winning the state championship, said Rice.
