Taking the title of Grand Champions by 21.5 points, three of South’s choirs competed five times at the 21st annual Findlay Fest choral competition in Findlay, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2.

The preliminary round broke the choirs into three categories: South Singers in class C, Tower Belles in the women’s division and the Pointe Singers in class A, choir director Christopher Pratt said.

“It took a lot of teamwork,” said Alexa Petropoulus ’17, “We worked really hard and all of the rehearsals really payed off.”

The Tower Belles won the title of Grand Champion in the womens division, beating their competitors by 102 points. Bianca Calisi ’17 was recognized as the group’s most dynamic performer, Pratt said.

In the final round, the Tower Belles competed against five additional groups, opening the show as the champions of their division, Pratt said.

Pointe Singers won the title of Grand Champions in class A, as well as Best Vocal Sound, Best Choreography, and Best Show. The group then went on to perform for finals.

Grace Muawad ’15 was named the Pointe Singers’ most dynamic performer, Jack Kay ’15 won Best Male Soloist for his solo in the ballad, “This is One Moment In Time” and Emma Aboukasm ’14 was named the competition’s Best Female Soloist for her solo “Swingin’ Love Medley”.

The South Singers, who performed in their first competition ever, won first runner-up in class C, Pratt said

“It [performing] is a lot of time, it’s a lot of refining, a lot of attention to details,” said Pratt, “And for us, the exciting this is that this is now the second competition where both of our groups have swept the major divisions.”
