In a rematch that took place earlier this season, the Lady Blue Devils took care of business beating Warren Cousino 56-34.

This was a matchup that when they met at Warren Cousino’s gym in December South dominated 69-27.

This matchup between the two former MAC white rivals was closer this time around. Cousino dominated early capitalizing on the Lady Blue Devils early turnovers. However, despite this poor play, the girls led at the end of the first 13-12. The second quarter was much of the same for the Patriots, forcing turnovers and converting on the offensive end. At the end of the half the girls had a slim lead of 27-25.

The second half was when the Blue Devils turned up the intensity on both sides of the ball. Cierra Rice ‘15 finished with 26 points and Claire DeBoer ’13 had 11 points anchoring the scoring as they outplayed Cousino 18-3 in the third quarter. Just as Patriots outplayed South in the first, the Lady Blue Devils prevailed and played a dominant second half.

The girls will now play Dakota in the regional final at Lakeshore High School. South has beaten Dakota two times already this season and will look to make it a third time on Thursday. If they win on Thursday, the girls will play the winner of Bloomfield Hills Marian and Clarkston in the state quarterfinals.
