Cruising to a 74-38 victory against Sterling Heights Stevenson, the girls basketball team is one game closer to clinching the MAC Red title.

The Lady Blue Devils are currently on a 16-game winning streak and are 16-1 overall.

“Our greatest success on the court was that everyone scored and we all passed the ball very well,” said team captain Claire DeBoer ’13 after the contest. “Deflections and steals were also a highlight of the game.”

The Lady Blue Devils displayed their strengths and ability to dominate. The games top scorers included DeBoer tallying 19, Cierra Rice and Aliezza Brown both ’15 scoring 15 and Bre’nae Andrews ’15 adding 9.

The Lady Blue Devils continue to impress with an unbeaten record in league play and by winning a number of games by large margins and showcasing their dept.

“We just need to continue to work on the day by day and crack down on some defensive holes,” said head coach Kevin Richards. “The girls are coming everyday and working hard, so I think we can get there.”

As the regular season winds down, the girls look to continue to improve their cohesiveness and continuity as a team.

“We are really adapting to one another and improving every day,” said DeBoer.

Richards agrees.

“The chemistry of the girls is improving,” said Richards. “It’s not where it needs to be for a championship level but it’s getting closer.”

This is the Lady Blue Devils first year in the MAC Red division and they are two wins away from clinching the MAC Red title, Richards said.

The team is focused on the games ahead with an eye toward a return to The Breslin Center in March, Richards said. The team’s next two opponents are Grosse Pointe North and Henry Ford.

“First we have districts,” said DeBoer. “Hopefully we can get into the groove of things and make a good run into the playoffs like last year.”

The Lady Blue Devils next game is at home against  North on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
