For the second time this season, the Lady Blue Devils defeated the Macomb Dakota Cougars, 57-52, on Thursday, Jan.10.

Guard Cierra Rice ’15 was big again for the girls leading the team with 20 points, while providing numerous hustle plays. Other high scorers included Claire DeBoer ‘13 with 18 points and Bre’nae Andrews ‘14 with 9.

After a competitive first quarter, the Lady Blue Devils broke it open in the second and took a commanding nine point lead into the half.

However, the third quarter was a different story. Dakota again used the three point shot to cut South’s lead to only one at 42-41.

The turning point in the game was Claire DeBoer’s three pointer, which stretched the lead to six points with only two and a half minutes left in the game. Despite poor free throw shooting down the stretch (two for six in the final two minutes), they were able to prevail by playing stifling defense.

The Lady Blue Devils (8-0, 15-1) look to stay undefeated in MAC Red play when they host Sterling Heights Stevenson on Tuesday, Feb.5.
