In what could be a future matchup at the Breslin in March, the varsity girl’s team defeated previously undefeated Macomb Dakota 54-52 on Tuesday, Jan. 8, bringing their record to 8-1. After a tightly contested first quarter for the Blue Devils, Dakota exploded for 22 points in the second quarter to push its halftime lead to 13.

In the second half, South used its defensive intensity and fast break points, led by Aliezza Brown ’15 who finished with a team high 16 points. The fourth quarter was also owned by the Blue Devils who tied the game at 46 on Gretchen Shirar’s ‘13 clutch three pointer. The girls never looked back finishing the game with great defense and made free throws. The team’s next contest is on the road at Sterling Heights Stevenson on Thursday, Jan. 10.
